LifeWorks joins GRiD

Published by: LifeWorks,

LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell, the total well-being solution and Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), has joined industry body Group Risk Development (GRiD).

As a member of GRiD, LifeWorks will benefit from access to pan-industry claims data, employer research, networking opportunities, access to industry experts, training and much more.

With mental ill health on a par with cancer as the main cause of claims for Group Income Protection*, employee support services to help people back to work and support them on a day-to-day basis have never been more critical, so it’s crucial for LifeWorks to work closely with the group risk industry.

In its most recent claims survey* GRiD captured details of the cases where insurers supported a return to work with active early intervention, such as fast-track access to counselling, before that person was eligible for a monetary payment. A third of people were able to go back to work during 2017 because of such early intervention, of which 52% had help to overcome mental illness. So a strong relationship between group risk insurers and added-value suppliers is crucial for the best outcomes for employees and employers.

Barb Veder, Chief Clinician and VP, LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell said: “As the UK Government’s flagship ambitions for health and well-being at work are forging ahead through initiatives such as the Good Work Plan, group risk support is critical in encouraging better health behaviours and preventative well-being maintenance among employees.

“LifeWorks has long supported group risk providers in making help accessible for employees whose employer has a group risk policy. Furthermore, we understand the importance of driving engagement and through a news feed, community and recognition, perks and rewards, we have unprecedented levels of persistent interaction. We’re looking forward to the opportunity that GRiD provides to work more closely with the industry.”

Steve Bridger, chairman of GRiD said: “We’re very pleased that LifeWorks has joined GRiD. The added-value support that’s offered alongside group risk products can bring the products to life for both employees and employers. Our own research** shows that only 32% of employers make regular use of all the extra support within group risk products, yet we know how much they can support engagement, help manage absence and increase productivity. So we’re all very much looking forward to working closely with LifeWorks.”

LifeWorks is an innovative well-being platform providing a confidential EAP and wellness resource, available 24/7 by phone, online, and by mobile app.

 About GRiD

Group Risk Development (GRiD) is the industry body for the group risk protection sector, promoting the value to UK businesses of providing financial protection for their staff, enhancing their wellbeing and improving employee engagement. Our membership includes insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries who have a collective wealth of experience built over years of operating in the group risk protection market. Under the chairmanship of Steve Bridger (MD Group Protection, Corporate, Aviva UK Insurance) GRiD aims to promote group risk through a collective voice to Government, policymakers, stakeholders and employers.

GRiD works with government departments and regulators involved in legislation and regulation affecting group risk benefits, and with other organisations involved in the benefits and financial protection arenas. GRiD also seeks to enhance the industry’s standing by encouraging best practice and by participating in industry-wide initiatives such as the professional qualification in group risk managed jointly with the Chartered Insurance Institute.

GRiD’s media activity aims to generate a wider awareness and understanding of group risk products and their benefits for employers and employees.

GRiD’s dedicated spokesperson, Katharine Moxham, provides expert media comment on a full range of group risk issues.
